BIOMASS

Biomass is one of the most promising renewable energy sources in Ukraine.

The country harvests more than 50 million tons of grain annually. The annual technically achievable energy potential of solid biomass in Ukraine is equivalent to almost 30 million tons. However, at the moment, Ukraine only utilizes 10% of its potential.

Last year, Ukraine added 50 MW of biomass-produced energy capacity, bringing the total capacity up to more than 120 MW. However, Ukraine’s current potential is 660 MW, and it can be as large as 6 GW by 2050.
